Oulton Manor Christmas Collection for Leeds Children's Charity

Oulton Manor staff, residents and their families have donated Christmas presents to Leeds Children's Charity.

Each year the charity organises a collection across the city, in conjunction with the council's social services department, for boys and girls aged 7 to 11 from disadvantaged families.

Suzanne Hughes has been appointed as manager of The Manor House care home in Gosforth, Newcastle, part of luxury elderly care provider Hadrian Healthcare Group.

Celebrity Encounter at the Temple Newsam Memory Walk

A team from Oulton Manor took part in the Alzheimer’s Society Memory Walk on Saturday 23 September, held in the beautiful parkland of Temple Newsam in Leeds.

The event aims to raise awareness and to raise funds for scientific research and to help support people living with dementia. This year over 4,000 people of all ages took part.

Yorkshire in Bloom Double for Hadrian Healthcare Homes

This year two Hadrian Healthcare homes have been recognised in the Yorkshire in Bloom awards. Wetherby Manor has won gold again for the third year running, and first-time entrant The Manor House Knaresborough has picked up a silver award.

Staff from both the homes represented the gardening teams at the awards ceremony at York Racecourse on 12 September.

Exotic Animals are Special Guests at Oulton Manor Summer Fayre

Some very unusual guests made a very big impression at Oulton Manor’s Summer Fayre on Saturday 19 August. Morley Exotic Animal Rescue Centre brought a range of the animals they currently have in their care, from a tiny marmoset monkey to a 12ft long python.

The Manor House Barnard Castle in the Running for International Design Award

A major refurbishment project at Hadrian Healthcare’s The Manor House care home in Barnard Castle is a finalist in the Society of British and International Design (SBID) International Design Awards.

The £600,000+ project was designed and managed by luxury retirement specialist Bernard Interiors who also designed the original interior, completed in 2009.

Fun at The Manor House Knaresborough Summer Fete

The Manor House care home in Knaresborough welcomed special guests of honour the Mayor and Mayoress of Knaresborough Councillor David Goode and Catherine Goode to their annual summer fete on Saturday 12 August which was heartily and loudly opened by the Town Crier, Roger Hewitt. Residents and visitors of all ages enjoyed activities such as hook-a-duck and hoopla, facepainting and archery.

Summer Fete at The Manor House Gosforth

On Saturday 5 August, 1.30-4pm, The Manor House Gosforth is holding its annual summer fete with games, facepainting, a brass band and singer Zoe, balloon races and a mini animal farm to mention just some of the attractions.

Lifestyle coordinator Richard Dobinson said: “The fete will have something for everyone, whatever their age. Brunton Park Scout Group are helping us out on the stalls and families, friends and members of the community are all invited to join in the fun.”

Canal Cruises Delight Residents

Residents from The Manor House Knaresborough have been enjoying life aboard barge The Endeavour on some of the most scenic sections of the Leeds-Liverpool canal.

Setting off from Skipton, the barge cruised through locks and picturesque villages north west to Gargrave or south to Kildwick. Then after delicious packed lunches of pork pies, sandwiches and cakes made by The Manor House’s cook, it was time to return home.

Learning Award Successes for Manor House Residents

Two residents at The Manor House Whickham have scooped first and second places in the Learning for Life category of Gateshead Council’s learningSkills Awards.

Betty Nicholson won the Learning for Life Award and Mary Potts was runner-up. They attend a popular watercolour class held at The Manor House every Thursday led by Gateshead Council tutor Bernard Quinn. The awards were presented at a ceremony at The Dryden Centre on 6 July by Councillor Jill Green.

Forties Day “a huge success” at Wetherby Manor

Wetherby Manor held a 1940’s themed day involving residents, families, friends and staff on 25 June. People dressed up to recreate times gone by and a 1940’s inspired hamper - containing items such as Camp coffee, blancmange, condensed milk and Spam - was the star raffle prize.

Sing-along entertainment in the afternoon was so popular more seating was brought into the main lounge.

Care Home Open Day Fun at The Manor House Gosforth

To celebrate national Care Home Open Day on Friday 16 June The Manor House Gosforth hosted fun packed activities for residents and guests from the local community.

The day began with toe tapping entertainment provided by the Bloomfield Duo from music therapy charity Music in Hospitals. In the afternoon there was a creative arts session ‘Music While You Work’ and a music quiz. For those feeling lucky there was a grand raffle with over 40 fabulous prizes.

Activities Day at The Manor House Gosforth

As part of Dementia Awareness Week (14-20 May) residents, their families and staff spent a day of fun activities together at The Manor House Gosforth.

In the morning it was back to school with a St Trinian’s theme and a quiz with residents and families versus staff. The combined years of knowledge of the residents helped them win the quiz hands down and home manager Karen Johnson presented trophies to the winners. After lunch there was a pirate treasure hunt which was lots of fun and caused much laughter.

Grand Opening for Rothwell’s Dementia Friendly Garden

The first dementia friendly garden in a UK public park was officially opened in Rothwell on 17 May by the Lord Mayor of Leeds Councillor Gerry Harper. It is now part of Dementia Friendly Rothwell, led by local dementia awareness campaigners Peter and Liz Smith.

Guests at the opening included members of the local community, local and city councillors, the Giving Voice Choir, KL Falconry, Connect For Health and Carers Leeds, West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service and West Yorkshire Police.

Yorkshire Air Museum brings back memories for Oulton Manor residents

A recent trip to The Yorkshire Air Museum near York, formerly the site of RAF Elvington, brought back memories for residents of Oulton Manor care home.

The all male group, most of whom have RAF or army experience, were accompanied by Oulton Manor carers Daniel and Emery, maintenance manager Michael and Mike the minibus driver. They are pictured with a Handley Page V bomber.

Eggstra Special Easter Fun at The Manor House Barnard Castle

Over the Easter period residents and staff at The Manor House care home in Barnard Castle enjoyed Easter egg hunts, an egg painting competition and a special chocolate demonstration by Kelsey Anderson of the Kacoa Chocolaterie.

The Kacoa Chocolaterie is based just outside Richmond and produces handmade chocolate treats such as dipped ganache and truffles.

In March a batch of eight fertile eggs arrived from Eggs to Chicks Hatching Adventure based at South Stainley near Harrogate, along with an incubator and everything they needed to make their start in life.

Physiotherapy Pilot Project Proves a Success

As a result of a successful pilot project to assess the benefits of regular physiotherapy sessions for care home residents and staff, Hadrian Healthcare Group is to continue the programme and extend it throughout the group.

For the pilot project a bespoke package was designed and delivered by physiotherapy practice Physiotherapy Matters. The sessions ran for 12 weeks (from late September to late December) at two of the group’s six care homes.

Hadrian Healthcare Staff First to Gain New Moving and Handling ‘Train the Trainer’ Qualification

A group of 13 staff from luxury elderly care provider Hadrian Healthcare are the first in the country to achieve a new Ofqual/ROSPA Qualifications accredited Level 3 moving and handling training qualification.

Specialist equipment supplier Britton Price provides the ‘Train the Trainer’ course, which qualifies participants to train to Level 2 (People Handling) and Level 1 (Load Handling), specifically for the care and nursing home sector.

Beamish Welcomes The Manor House Barnard Castle

Residents from The Manor House care home in Barnard Castle visited Orchard Cottage in Beamish.

The 1940s farm cottage is full of familiar sights, sounds, smells and tastes for people who lived through the war years. Beamish’s specially trained staff led conversation, reminiscence and activity sessions which included making toast on the open fire, which the residents then enjoyed eating with homemade jam and lots of tea.

Some unusual guests have made a visit to The Manor House care home in Barnard Castle, to the delight of the residents who met them.

Hoot the southern white-faced Scops owl, a tiger salamander named Sam and a French Lop rabbit called Molly to name a few were accompanied by handler Martyn from Teesside-based animal experience company Animal Story.

Hadrian Healthcare Group Supports Rothwell Dementia Friendly Garden

Hadrian Healthcare Group has made a donation of £5000 to support the creation of the first dementia friendly garden in a public park in the UK at Springhead Park in Rothwell, Leeds.

Garden project leader and dementia awareness campaigner Peter Smith BEM said: “We’d like to thank Hadrian Healthcare for this very generous donation. The whole community has come together to support the project and we’re delighted to have raised the £35,000 we need to go ahead. We can’t wait to get started.”
