Simon Shares Expertise At Care Caterers Forum

Simon Lawrence, executive chef for Hadrian Healthcare Group and winner of this year’s Best Care Cook in the UK award, has given a special demonstration at the National Association of Care Catering annual training and development forum in Blackpool.

The three day forum is the only dedicated learning event for care caterers in the UK, and is specifically designed to address and debate the issues and challenges facing caterers in the care sector.

Simon’s demonstration was on the benefits of oily fish.

He said: “Foods that contribute to physical and mental health are at the top of the agenda when producing a menu for the elderly.  You can improve someone’s health with the right foods for their condition.

“Oily fish has been proven to be beneficial to health, but it can be an acquired taste. We’re developing recipes which include it and taste great, such as mackerel and sweet potato oat crumbed fishcakes, which is proving to be a popular dish.

“Good food is my passion. I love cooking and really enjoyed doing the demonstration.”

Simon leads the chefs at Hadrian Healthcare Group’s nine care homes across the north of England and is based at Wetherby Manor, in the centre of Wetherby.  All food is prepared and cooked in-house at each of the homes using locally sourced ingredients wherever possible.

Hadrian Healthcare Group’s homes are designed to give residents a very special dining experience with bistros and cafes, and staff are trained in food preparation and service.
