Mary Celebrates 104th Birthday At The Manor House

Mrs Mary Dawson celebrated her 104th birthday at The Manor House care home in Gosforth where she now lives on 12 June.

She was joined by family and friends for a special birthday lunch party.

Mary was born in Shildon, County Durham. Aged 17 she began nursing training at West Lane Hospital in Middlesbrough and completed her general nursing training in Blackburn. She also trained as a midwife at the West Middlesex Hospital in London before taking up the post of matron at Scaffold Hill Hospital, North Tyneside where she worked for 15 years.

Mary lived in Newcastle with her husband Harry, and was an active member of the Townswomen’s Guild attending their annual meetings at the Royal Albert Hall.

Pam Gould, manager of The Manor House said: “Mary has a great sense of humour. She celebrated her 100th birthday at The Manor House and we’re absolutely delighted now to be part of the celebration for her 104th birthday.”

The Manor House provides residential and dementia care and is part of Hadrian Healthcare Group.
