Betty Celebrates 100th Birthday at The Manor House, Whickham

Betty Melrose celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends on 18 April at The Manor House care home in Whickham.

A special birthday gift had been organised by staff at The Manor House too.

Betty’s nephew Ray Beck said: “Aunty Bet is a big Tom Jones fan so the staff wrote off to his manager to see if he might send a card, and instead they sent a record signed by Tom.”

Betty was born in Scotswood, Newcastle and worked at the Woodbine Laundry before leaving to look after her mother. She also looked after other family members and then returned to work at the NHS laundry until she retired.

Liz Dixon, manager at The Manor House said: “Betty is a very caring, selfless lady who always thinks of others before herself and always has a smile. We are delighted to be part of her life for this special birthday.”
