Beamish Welcomes The Manor House Barnard Castle

Residents from The Manor House care home in Barnard Castle visited Orchard Cottage in Beamish.

The 1940s farm cottage is full of familiar sights, sounds, smells and tastes for people who lived through the war years. Beamish’s specially trained staff led conversation, reminiscence and activity sessions which included making toast on the open fire, which the residents then enjoyed eating with homemade jam and lots of tea.

Catherine Howard, lifestyle coordinator at The Manor House said: “We looked at some artefacts from the era which aren’t in use now and which I didn’t recognise. Our residents however remembered exactly what they were, much to their delight. The visits were completed with a rousing singalong with Beamish volunteer Ruth, aged 81, who plays a very fine tune on the piano.”
