60th Wedding Anniversary Celebration for Couple Who Met in Paris

Mollie and Peter Nelson celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on 26 July with a party for family and friends at The Manor House care home in Knaresborough where they now live.

The couple met in Paris in 1956 whilst on a Methodist holiday trip. Peter first held Mollie’s hand at the top of the Eiffel Tower and their first kiss was at the Arc de Triomphe.

They married in 1958 at Park Grove Methodist Church in Knaresborough.

Peter said: "We have had a very happy marriage filled with a growing family - firstly our two boys, then daughters in law and now grandchildren."

Since that first romantic meeting the couple have travelled extensively, holidaying in the UK and overseas. Both attended Gracious Street Methodist Church and members of the congregation visit them regularly.

"We were delighted to be part of Mollie and Peter's wonderful celebration," said Paula Caliskan, manager of The Manor House. "We wish them both all the very best."
