‘Postcards to Home’ Brings Back Holiday Memories

This summer Oulton Manor teamed up with local newsletter LS26 and Dementia Friendly Rothwell on a project to link the wider community with residents through holiday postcards, ‘Postcards to Home’.

LS26 asked people going on holiday to send a postcard to residents at Oulton Manor, including a few words on how their holiday was going.

Andrea Harley, home manager said: “Peter, our lifestyle coordinator, holds a special coffee morning every week where residents get together to read what is written on the postcards and share memories of holidays they enjoyed when they were younger.

“Residents have asked about the cards every day, and even the postman wanted to know what was going on. We’ve had lots written by children and that has been fantastic.”

So far 72 postcards have been received, the nearest coming from Bridlington and the furthest from Russia.

Andrea continued: “This project has created so much interest and I have been completely overwhelmed by the response from the local community. On behalf of residents and staff I’d like to say thank you to everyone who has taken the time to send us a postcard, we’ve enjoyed reading them all.”
